Macaws

Macaws have been rightly called winged rainbows. They are among those few species in nature which add color to Mother Earth and add to her unending miracles. Macaws are flamboyant, colorful, intelligent and captivating birds. Their personalities are legendary. Because of their great beauty and engaging personalities, macaws have been kept in captivity for centuries. In fact, in the United States, macaws were kept by the Pueblo Indians since 1100 A.D.

Seventeen species of macaws can be found in the wild today, in Central and South America. They are typically brightly coloured, with large beaks and long tails. Blue and Gold Macaw, Greenwing Macaw, Military Macaw, Red Fronted Macaw, Scarlet Macaw, Hyacinth Macaw, Hahns Macaw are some examples from the family of macaws.

Provided they are given a healthy diet, good training, allowed freedom from their cage and given lots of attention macaws will be life long companions. Macaws live longer than most dogs and birds. Taking care of macaws is anything but easy. Your macaws will bond closely with you if you take pains to know as much about them as possible, mainly their feather condition, diet, flying tendencies and their personalities.

Food:

Small portions of pasta, cooked chicken, turkey or chicken thigh bones, fruit salad, cooked legumes and any other leftovers are great for macaws.

Cockateils

Cockatiel care includes good regulation of its diet. This bird is used to eating seeds, pelleted feed and fresh chopped fruits, vegetables, and greens. For proper cockatiel care, it is important to wash your bird's food and water containers daily. Clean the cage and accessories on a regular basis. Doing so will help prevent illnesses.Another important step in cockatiel care is to keep its wing feathers trimmed. Birds with untrimmed wings CAN and WILL fly away.

To train a lovebird you will need patience and time.The first step in training lovebirds is to get the bird used to your hand. You must be very careful while you are doing this. The lovebird may get afraid when it sees your hand in its cage. It may bite you too. Don't lose your calm and for God's sake, don't yell at the cute bundle of feathers! Train a lovebird well and your bird will perch on your finger in no time.Training lovebirds also involves not leaving the bird lonely in its cage.

Parrots

Parrots are a very popular group of birds. Their colourful patterns and cute mannerisms, including picking things up with their feet and climbing with their bills, endears them to us all. No wonder parrots are such favorite pets. The smallest parrot is probably the Buff-faced Pygmy Parrot from Papua New Guinea. The largest is the Hyacinth Macaw from S. America. Lories and Lorikeets, Cockatoos and Cockatiel, Macaws, Lovebirds, Conures, Short-tailed Parakeets, Amazons and Senegal are some examples of the different kinds of parrots that beautify our earth.
Parrots are intelligent animals who depend on some degree of socialization and will not be good pets unless they are taught and patterned to be good pets. Good training is therefore vital to make these parrots bond with you. Feed your parrots a variety of shapes, colors, textures, and sizes of natural foods. Quality proteins, Vitamin A rich veggies, wholegrains and carbohydrates are absolute yummies with parrots.
